Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio highlighted two key initiatives as the focal points of the State Government’s commitment to healthcare and financial security—the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) and the Chief Minister’s Life Insurance Scheme (CMLIS).

Dr Rio announced that the CMHIS remains a top priority of the government, with a total of 12,047 beneficiaries availing benefits in the current financial year. To ensure wider access to quality healthcare, 66 hospitals, both within and outside the state, have been empaneled under the scheme. This initiative has proven to be a lifeline for many residents seeking affordable healthcare services.

Further emphasizing the government’s commitment to entrepreneurship, Dr Rio discussed the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative (CMMFI), which has sanctioned 1,318 subsidized loans to support local businesses. An amount of Rs 50 crore has been allocated for the scheme in the upcoming financial year, 2025-26, to continue fostering economic growth.

The CMLIS, launched in October 2024, has already enrolled 3,99,915 beneficiaries, offering life insurance coverage to individuals from various sectors, including government employees, elected members, pensioners, and members of the press. With the open enrolment model available throughout the year, the scheme aims to provide financial security to more families. To date, 30 beneficiaries have claimed benefits under the scheme. Dr. Rio revealed that Rs 15 crore has been earmarked for the next year’s premium, ensuring continued coverage for all enrolled beneficiaries. The renewal of the CMLIS is scheduled for October 2025.
