The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) has strongly condemned the kidnapping of six Naga individuals at Aoyimkum on December 15, 2025, and called for immediate action against those responsible. In a press release, the apex business body said “firearms procured using Naga public money were used and fired in a civilian populated area, the very firearms which was meant to protect the Nagas over mere accusations of operating a so-called fake call centre.”

The CNCCI questioned the basis of the accusations leveled against the victims, who were allegedly targeted for operating a so-called fake call centre. It asked what was anti-national about Naga citizens engaging in business activities and asserted that any suspected illegality should be reported to the competent statutory authorities for investigation and prosecution. According to the organization, matters involving crime or alleged unlawful activities must be dealt with strictly by lawful institutions and not by armed groups claiming to act in the name of Naga nationhood.

Raising concerns over law enforcement, the CNCCI questioned whether the Nagaland Police was discharging its constitutional responsibilities or abdicating them in favor of Naga political groups. It stated that instead of focusing primarily on multiple mobile checkpoints and routine vehicle checks that are often perceived by the public as harassment and “another money collection,” the police must shift its focus towards addressing serious crimes and unlawful activities that threaten public safety and the rule of law.

The CNCCI stated that the Naga people have never mandated the existence of multiple factions, nor authorized any group to engage in moral or parallel policing. It said the mandate given to Naga political groups was to “solely to struggle on behalf of the Naga people against colonial rule and not to inflict fear, pain, and injustice upon their own people.”

It warned that the Naga Public will “not tolerate subjugation and enslavement in the guise of Naga freedom.”

The business body also questioned the State Government’s response, asking whether it was waiting for Naga Political Groups to “hit a century” at the cost of continued public suffering. It also asked whether “the Government is taking advantage of the existence of multiple factions for its own convenience.”

It challenged the government to “come out transparently and inform the public of the concrete steps it has taken to bring the various Naga political groups together and lessen the burden of common man.”

The CNCCI also reminded the State Government that “Nagaland is an electoral democracy, not a kingdom, fiefdom or totalitarian state and the state Government is duty-bound to respond, act, and remain accountable to the electorate.”

Demanding an immediate, swift and thorough investigation into the Aoyimkum incident, the CNCCI called for all perpetrators to be booked without fear or favor, stating that “kidnapping one’s own people whom they claim to represent and fight for is an act that is profoundly anti-Naga and cannot, under any circumstances, be tolerated.”
