The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) has decided to defer its proposed indefinite voluntary shutter down, which was scheduled to begin on April 24, 2025, following a government invitation for dialogue.

In a statement, CNCCI said the decision was made “based on mutual trust and in the larger interest for dialogue,” after a high-level meeting was held with government officials. “In response to our Voluntary Shutter Down, through the directive of the Honourable Chief Minister, the Government of Nagaland extended an invitation for dialogue. A high-level meeting was held wherein representatives from all the nine aggrieved District Chambers, led by CNCCI, participated,” the statement read.

The proposed protest was originally planned “due to continued government apathy and lack of response to our long-standing demand for nominee representation in ULB,” according to CNCCI.

During the meeting, CNCCI and the nine District Chambers “clearly reiterated that the demand for nominee representation in ULBs is non-negotiable, as it is essential to protect the interests of the business community and consumers alike.” In turn, “the Government, acknowledging the concerns raised, has requested a period of two weeks to address the matter.”

While the protest has been put “in abeyance for a period of two weeks,” CNCCI has cautioned that it expects the government to “act responsibly and resolve the issue within the stipulated time frame.”

In the meantime, all 17 District Presidents and Executive Members of CNCCI have been directed to attend the Executive Council Meeting scheduled for April 25 at CNCCI Headquarters, Dimapur.
