Mokokchung, 8 February (MTNews): The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) expressed shock and devastation over the recent fire incident at the MMC Shopping Complex in Mokokchung and urged the government to provide “every best possible support” to the victims. The fire accident razed at least 62 shops and partially damaged 73 shops where CNCCI estimated goods worth “many crores” of rupees were destroyed.
“We are deeply pained not only for the material losses during the unfortunate incident but also more concerned about the livelihood of hundreds of family which has been affected and also for those involved in the indirect support system of the business ecosystem which may further involve hundreds of families,” CNCCI chairman Dr Khekugha Muru and general secretary Dr Seyievilie Mor said in a press release.
“As a business community the CNCCI deeply understands the hardship and difficult times that our fellow business community is going through during such loss and difficulty,” stated the CNCCI. “On behalf of the business community of Nagaland, the CNCCI joins in the pain and suffering of our fellow businessmen and women of the MMC shopping fire complex victims. We pray that God almighty will give them strength and ways to tide over the unfortunate incident,” it added.
Meanwhile, the CNCCI strongly urged the state government to look into this matter “not only as a mere fire incident but from humane angles as this business supports hundreds of families’ livelihood, generating hundreds of employment and further supporting hundreds of indirect employment in the business ecosystem.”
The CNCCI urged the state government to proactively provide financial assistance, material support, facilitate access to banking loans, and extend credit facilities to help the victims rebuild their businesses. The Chamber expressed its firm belief that such compassionate measures would not only aid in the immediate recovery but also instill a sense of security within the business community.
“The CNCCI strongly believes that such magnanimous decisions by the state government will also in a long run give a sense of security to the younger generation to venture into the business,” it said, adding that it will send a positive message about its commitment to assisting the business community during times of crisis and losses.
