The association emphasized that the issue of the influx of migrants from Bangladesh has been a continuous struggle and a challenge for several Northeastern states, including Nagaland. Districts such as Mokokchung, Wokha, Niuland, and Dimapur, which share borders with Assam, are particularly vulnerable. Assam itself has been grappling with the influx of illegal migrants from Bangladesh, and the CNSA warned that without stringent measures, Nagaland could face similar challenges.
According to the CNSA, the influx of illegal migrants has the potential to create tensions between communities, potentially leading to social unrest. The association called for immediate action from the state government, urging collaboration with central agencies to strengthen border security and prevent illegal crossings. The CNSA also recommended the implementation of a comprehensive identification and registration system through the rigorous implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) for all migrants, ensuring that those who enter do so legally.
