Mokokchung, December 3 (MTNews): The Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has criticized the government of Nagaland for not doing its duty and delivering on the genuine needs of the people but instead organizing festivals and becoming an ‘event management group’.

The CNTC through its Media Cell on Saturday blamed the leadership of the present government for their failure to deliver “equitable distribution and governance and the grievances” of the ENPO areas.

Referring to the demand for a separate ‘Frontier Nagaland’ state by ENPO, CNTC said, “The elected house including the MLAs of the ENPO areas are responsible for the present embarrassing stalemate.”

CNTC also stated that the government should take the MLAs of ENPO areas into close confidence and bring out policy and programmes to provide a clear road map and system of efficient governance. The CNTC also expressed concern and regret on the ENPO not participating in the ongoing Hornbill Festival which is considered as an international event and where the unity of different tribes of the state is displayed. “However, the morungs of ENPOs were closed and empty which has presented a different story,” it regretted.

On the other hand, CNTC stated that the state government “instead of organizing festivals of festivals and becoming an Event Management Group” should do its duty and deliver and take up the genuine needs of the people.

“But for obvious reasons the state government as the guardian of the state has left the demand of the ENPO in cold storage. Therefore, the state government should explain why the ENPO started to ask for separate statehood and why it cannot address the issue,” CNTC stated, while suggesting to the state government to “address these issues before it gets out of hand.”

Reiterates stand on Naga political issue

CNTC also reiterated its stand on early Naga political solution. It appealed to the Government of India to “deliver the solution as promised before the state assembly election.”

“As parliament winter session is due, CNTC is hopeful that the Naga political issue will be taken up in the winter session which will bring fruitful conclusion which indeed is a long cherished dream of all the Nagas,” CNTC said.
