The Central Nagaland Tribal Council (CNTC) has submitted an open representation to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, seeking immediate intervention and appropriate measures regarding the proposed oil exploration activities in the Disputed Area Belt (DAB).
While welcoming the Nagaland government’s decision to initiate petroleum exploration, the council stressed that the process must be carried out “in a lawful, transparent, consultative, and environmentally responsible manner,” while safeguarding the rights and interests of the indigenous people of the state.
In the representation signed by its president, Hukiye Yepthomi, and general secretary, Akum Pongen, the CNTC placed five key demands before the government.
