Mokokchung district is witnessing a steady rise in coffee cultivation, with more farmers taking up the crop amid growing demand for Nagaland coffee and improved market linkages.
According to L Temsu, Assistant Inspector of the Land Resources Department (LRD), Mokokchung, increasing awareness about the market potential of coffee and better access to buyers have encouraged farmers across the district to adopt coffee cultivation.
He said Nagaland coffee is organic and has gained recognition for its quality, contributing to the growing interest among cultivators.
Coffee development under the LRD in Mokokchung district began in 2018. Since then, around 750 hectares covering 56 villages have been brought under cultivation through the department’s initiative.
LRD records show that Mokokchung produced around 15 metric tonnes of parchment coffee during the last harvest season.
The expansion of coffee cultivation is increasingly being viewed as a potential livelihood opportunity for rural farmers, particularly as demand for organically grown coffee continues to rise.
