After announcing an indefinite ‘chakka bandh’ set to begin on 9 October 2023 at 5:00 AM, the All Commercial Vehicle Owners’ Association (ACVOA) representing Mokokchung, Tuensang, Zunheboto, and Longleng Districts has reiterated its demand at a meeting held today, citing a lack of response from higher authorities.

Tongpang, President of the All Nagaland Taxi Association Mokokchung Unit told Mokokchung Times that the ACVOA plans to hold separate meetings within their respective associations on 7 October to strategize and discuss the impending bandh. He also mentioned that preparations for the bandh, including the making of placards and banners, are already underway.

“We have had both verbal and written discussions on the matter, but thus far, there has been no response from the government. Consequently, this appears to be our only option. We hope the public will rally behind our concerns,” Tongpang emphasized.

The decision to impose the bandh followed a previous development on 27 September when the Commercial Vehicle Owners Association (CVOA) of Mokokchung issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Superintendent of Police (SP), Mokokchung. The ultimatum was prompted by delay in payments for their services rendered during the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly Election held earlier this year.
