The Government of Nagaland, on Thursday, 2 November, sanctioned an amount of Rs 11,62,00,000 for the payment of private vehicle hiring charges requisitioned during the State Assembly Election 2023.

However, the All Commercial Vehicle Owners’ Association (ACVOA) from Mokokchung, Tuensang, Zunheboto, Longleng, Phek, and Peren Districts, who are protesting against the government’s delay in payment, have announced that they will proceed with their proposed ‘chakka bandh’ effective from 3 November and continue it until the sanctioned amount is disbursed and delivered to them.

The bandh will persist despite an appeal from the Nagaland PHQ to all Transporter Associations in various districts of the State to call off and withdraw the proposed chakka bandh to prevent any inconvenience to the public. The appeal states that the Nagaland Government has approved the expenditure sanction to clear all outstanding dues incurred for hiring private vehicles during the Nagaland State Assembly Election 2023.

“We have received the order, but we have collectively decided to continue until the sanctioned amount is disbursed and delivered to us,” said Tongpang, President of the All Nagaland Taxi Association Mokokchung.

“The bandh will continue until the sanctioned amount is disbursed and delivered,” he added. The bandh will begin from 5:00 am.
