Observing the lack of conversation on marriage in many homes today, the Youth Department of Chakhesang Baptist Church Ministers’ Hill Kohima (CBCMHK) organized a conclave on ‘Christian marriage’ for millennials and Generation Z at the church premises on April 26.

Participants along with resource speakers during the one-day conclave on Christian marriage among millennial and generation-Z at CBCMH, Kohima on Saturday.

The conclave was organized because marriage often evokes uneasiness, shame, or even fear for both parents and their children. Consequently, the topic remains guarded until many young people rush into preparations.

Furthermore, they are typically excluded from conversations about marriages and lack a sense of moral/spiritual direction or a Biblical mandate to lean on, the youth department stated.

Moderating a session on ‘The Baptist Distinctive on Holy Marriage,’ Youth Director of CBCMHK, Rakodu Nukhu, said the discussions were from the Baptist perspective on marriage. He noted that conversation on marriage is something that bothers many young people today. Especially within the Baptist context, many things are unclear, leaving youths without guidance. He expressed hopes that the discussion would guide participants through various aspects of marriage.

Rev. Dr. Vetso Koza, pastor of Chakhesang Baptist Church Dimapur, delved into ‘The Baptist Distinctive on Holy Marriage’ and mentioned that guidelines on holy marriage are limited, making it an unexplored area.

However, as Christians, one should build the foundation based on the Bible. He added that marriage is instituted by God, which makes it holy. It is God who joins the marriage, with pastors/reverends administering the joining.

Lanu Vihienuo, Headmistress of Dayspring Preschool, Kohima, conducted a session with female participants, while Koza led the session with male participants on the topic ‘Preparing for Godly Marriage.’

Over a hundred participated in the conclave. Earlier, the Senior Pastor of CBCMHK, Rev. Dr. Vevo Phesao, pronounced the invocation. The conclave was followed by the youth worship service.
