A major organisational reset is underway within the Indian National Congress in Nagaland, as the party rolls out the All India Congress Committee’s Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan (SSA) across the state to rebuild its structure from district to village level.
Under the initiative, around 12 AICC observers have been deputed to Nagaland to interact directly with District Congress Committee (DCC) workers, block units and village-level members across constituencies.
The exercise aims to identify leadership through consultation and feedback rather than closed-door appointments.
KBR Naidu, AICC observer for Mokokchung district, said the objective is to strengthen and revive the Congress organisation “across the nation,” beginning at the grassroots.
“This is the first time something like this is being done by the Congress. This is democracy,” Naidu said during a press conference at Mokokchung District Congress Committee Office, on February 19.
The process will begin with the identification of DCC presidents, following which executive committees, political affairs committees and media cells will be constituted. Village Congress Committees will then be formed, creating a structure that runs from district to village base.
Naidu, who will remain in Mokokchung for 15–20 days, said observers would gather inputs not only from party workers but also from the general public.
While party leaders maintained that the initiative does not reflect dissatisfaction with the present leadership, Naidu confirmed that the selection process would be open.
“It’s not that we don’t find the present Congress leadership capable. Even he is an applicant. We want to give chances to a very capable person where all people can participate,” he said when asked whether the move signals a leadership review.
Rosy Thomson, General Secretary of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), described the exercise as part of a broader national restructuring effort spearheaded by Rahul Gandhi.
NPCC Secretary Viseto Natso said the program has commenced and will cover all constituencies in the state.
