The Congress party has written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, requesting an investigation into the BJP’s finances based on an investigative series published by Newslaundry and The News Minute. The investigative series delved into political funding across India, particularly the BJP’s financial growth and a pattern of money flow involving corporate donors facing action by central agencies during a certain period.

At a press conference held at the AICC headquarters, Congress’s media in-charge and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh demanded a white paper from the BJP on its finances. Referring to the investigation, Ramesh raised three questions and criticized the alleged misuse of CBI, ED, and Income Tax against private companies.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal wrote a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, urging an investigation into the alleged quid-pro-quo between the BJP and several firms exposed by the investigative report. The letter highlighted findings from the report, including the revelation that 30 companies donated nearly Rs 335 crore to the BJP between FY2019 and FY2023, despite facing action by central agencies during that period.

The letter emphasized instances where companies donated to the BJP after being raided by enforcement agencies, suggesting a potential quid-pro-quo. It called for an open debate on whether Sitharaman would provide a white paper on BJP’s finances, offer a point-by-point rebuttal, or support a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the alleged dubious deals.
