The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), one of the State’s only parties outside the ruling NPF-BJP coalition alongside the Rising People’s Party (RPP), is witnessing growing internal dissatisfaction even as it attempts to revive its organizational presence.

Over the past several months, the NPCC has highlighted increases in new memberships and enrolment drives. However, several party workers told MT that concerns have been building at the grassroots. Speaking on condition of anonymity, one member said that “decision-making appears limited to only a few people,” adding that many workers feel “uncertain about the direction of the organization.”

Some members also pointed to what they described as limited communication between district units and the State leadership. Another worker said, “People on the ground are putting in effort, but clarity is missing. Without coordination, the party struggles to move as one.”

Allegations have also emerged about perceived imbalance in internal representation, though MT was unable to reach any party leaders for comment at the time of filing this report.

Despite being the only major party outside the opposition-less Assembly, the NPCC has struggled to position itself as a cohesive alternative. Political observers note that internal unease could further weaken democratic scrutiny at a time when the ruling NPF-BJP alliance continues to consolidate its position.

However, several Congress workers stressed that the situation remains repairable through restructuring and stronger outreach. “People still want the Congress to function. But the system needs to listen,” one member said.

The NPCC has not issued an official response to the concerns raised by party workers. For now, the developments suggest that beyond expansion efforts, the party may require introspection if it hopes to remain relevant in an opposition-less State.
