Kohima, November 29 (MTNews): Joining the party’s ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC) and 9 Kohima Town ACCC under the aegis of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) undertook the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from Congress Bhavan to Kigwema village in Kohima today.
Hundreds of party activists, leaders of Nationalist Peoples’ Party (NPP) and public joined the rally with banners and placards some of which read “We need job,” “We Need Development,” “We need quality leadership,” “We need action not words” and “Save Nagaland Save Nation.”
Speaking at the rally, NPCC working president Khriedi Theunuo stated that the state has no rule of law and that people do not respect the government because it does not work for their welfare.
He also claimed that government projects in Nagaland had failed because the state government had misled the implementing agencies. He stated that Congress could see that money is not being used properly in many of the projects and that the state government is attempting to “manipulate and fool us.”
Referring to the BJP’s manifesto for the 2019 general election, which promised the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Theunuo stated, “Nagas have to be very careful because if the UCC is enforced, our (Nagas) rights will be taken away.”
“UCC is for one nation, one people. Under it we all have to be Hindus and remain under one law. It will take away the special protection of customary laws and religious rights,” he claimed.
“If Nagaland gets a weak government, Nagas will have to succumb to the pressure of the BJP government to accept UCC,” the Congress leader said.
Through this march, he hoped that a strong message that Congress is for peace and harmony will be given.
“We are for justice, we are for equality and we are against corruption,” he said, and added that the Congress party fights for secularism and justice and respects all religions.
The program was chaired by KDCC President, Kevi Vizo.
