Vice President of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), Captain GK Zhimomi, addressed concerns about alleged internal unrest in the party, which was earlier reported by MT. Speaking to MT, Zhimomi said, “Congress is a big family and differences and disagreements will be there and that’s something that happens across the party.” He added that decisions are not made by a “select few,” explaining, “We all sit down and vent our opinions openly as we share the same objective.”

He emphasized that the party is focused on rebuilding and strengthening its structure from top to bottom. “Today, we have seen people joining the party, many have been joining, and many are in line to join,” Zhimomi said.

On the recent resignation of the NPCC Communication Chairman, Zhimomi described it as a personal decision. “He not only resigned from the position but the party. I have nothing to say except that it is unfortunate, but it is also part of politics,” he added.

Acknowledging frustrations within the party, Zhimomi said, “23 long years out of power in Nagaland and the frustrations of some party workers are understandable. However, those truly committed to the secular ideology and inclusive principles of the Indian National Congress remain rooted despite setbacks. Some drift away for reasons best known to them, and the Congress family can only wish them well in their new political abode.”

When asked about disagreements that surfaced after the Lok Sabha election 2024, including office closures in some constituencies, Zhimomi said, “During the MP election, more people joined the party, many from outside and unfamiliar with party functioning. There were disappointments and confusions, but now, all have been sorted out.”

When asked about expectations following the NDPP-NPF merger, he maintained a positive outlook, saying, “We always have a positive outlook.”

On Congress’ role as an opposition, Zhimomi said, “Congress has always been vocal, but unfortunately, voters have chosen differently. Currently, we are constrained in resources and are building the party stronger from top to bottom. We will raise issues when the time is right.”

Regarding what the Congress can offer differently, Zhimomi said the party will provide a better alternative in infrastructure, human resources, electricity, roads, and basic amenities.
