The National Executive meeting of the Minority Department, chaired by All India Congress Committee Minority Department Chairman and Rajya Sabha MP, Imran Pratapgarhi, was held on 10 June at the AICC Headquarters, 24 Akbar Road, to review the Lok Sabha elections. K Raju, In-charge of the SC, ST, OBC & Minority Department, also attended the meeting. Colleagues from the department presented their suggestions regarding the Lok Sabha election results and the upcoming assembly elections.
In his remarks, department In-charge K Raju praised the department’s work and offered suggestions for organizational expansion. The department has devised a roadmap for the upcoming elections in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand, where assembly-wise in-charges will be appointed.
Rajesh Kumar Sethi, National Coordinator of the Minority Department from Nagaland (in-charge of Manipur State), T Thomas Konyak, National Joint Coordinator (in-charge of Tripura State), and Javed Sarwar, Chairman of the Minority Department of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, shared their views.
Javed Sarwar highlighted the historic victory in Nagaland where despite not having a single Congress MLA in the state’s 60-member Legislative Assembly, the Congress candidate secured victory in the lone Parliamentary seat.
This victory came despite strong opposition with 60 MLAs, two Deputy Chief Ministers, a Chief Minister, several Union Ministers, the Home Minister of India, and the Prime Minister’s backing.
During the election campaign, National Congress General Secretary Randeep Surjewala addressed the Congress candidate and State President Supongmaren Jamir as “Superman Jamir,” a name that turned into reality as Supongmaren won by a margin of over 50,000 votes to become a Member of Parliament.
Rajesh Kumar Sethi, in-charge of Manipur state, reported that despite challenges, including attacks and gunfire on Congress candidates, both Professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam (Inner Manipur) and Alfred Kangam S Arthur (Outer Manipur) won their seats by significant margins.
Sethi, Konyak, and Sarwar congratulated him on the successful completion of his three-year tenure as Chairman. Runith D’Mellow, Nagaland in-charge, also expressed gratitude to the people of Nagaland for their remarkable support and victory.
