Dimapur, February 17 (MTNews): Rajya Sabha MP and Congress general secretary in-charge of Communications department, Jairam Ramesh said Congress is the only party that is in a position to protect and promote the interest of Naga society.
Addressing media persons in Dimapur today, Ramesh said Congress which gave full-fledged statehood to Nagaland and introduced Article 371 (A) is the only party to protect the diversity of the state and can bring back the state on the road to peace, harmony and development. He claimed that the Congress is the only party that can protect the religious, cultural, linguistic and ethnic diversity of Nagaland.
He said the party will extend support to any initiatives taken by civil society for free and fair elections without any manipulations.
During the occasion, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee President, K Therie released the party’s ‘seven guarantees’ and added that if given an opportunity, the party will implement the guarantees.
The ‘seven guarantees’ included pension for senior citizens, 33 percent reservation for women in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), Mini Secretariat in Tuensang, 100 percent wages under MGNREGA, zero interest loans for higher education, clean drinking water and sanitation facilities for all and compulsory sports training after HSLC.
