Addressing the gathering as resource person, Sunjib Rana, Advocate and Panel Lawyer, Kohima District Legal Services Authority, said consumer protection extends beyond buying and selling goods and encompasses the wider economy and overall development.

“Once we are informed, we are aware, we become a confident consumer,” Rana said, urging students to make safety a priority when purchasing products. He said consumers have the right to choose between products and can approach consumer courts in cases involving product complaints, deficient services or unfair trade practices.

In his keynote address, Shiekhozo, Assistant Controller, LMCP Kohima, said the department plays an important role in ensuring fair trade practices, accurate measurements and protecting consumer rights. He said the department conducts awareness programmes and enforces relevant laws and rules to prevent unfair commercial practices.

Shiekhozo also linked consumer awareness with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, saying development encompasses education, human resources and the economy alongside infrastructure.

The programme was chaired by Dr Meyisangla Longkumer, Assistant Professor, Economics Department, while Kohima College Principal Dr Vitsosie Vupru delivered the welcome address. Kongkhao presented a special number and Er Silo Jemu, Inspector, LMCP, Kohima, proposed the vote of thanks.
