NSDMA says damage assessment underway as homes, roads and farmland affected across the state
Continuous heavy rainfall across Nagaland has triggered landslides, flash floods and mudslides in several districts, disrupting normal life and causing damage to houses, infrastructure and agricultural areas. Reports received from the District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) indicate that multiple districts have been affected, while assessment of damages is continuing.
As per reports received from the districts, several incidents have been reported:
In Tuensang district, landslides and flash floods were reported from several villages, affecting 12 villages and approximately 201 persons. Reports indicate that 22 houses were fully damaged and 25 houses were partially damaged. Damage assessment is continuing in the affected areas.
In Zunheboto district, landslides and flooding affected around 30 villages, impacting 26 persons. District authorities are assessing the extent of damage to infrastructure and public property.
In Shamator district, widespread landslides were reported from several locations affecting 6 villages and approximately 7,000 persons. Assessment of damages is underway.
In Mokokchung district, heavy rainfall accompanied by landslides affected 18 villages, impacting 84 persons. Reports from the district indicate that further assessment is being carried out by the concerned authorities.
In Longleng district, landslides affected 9 villages and 102 persons. Reports indicate that five kutcha houses were fully damaged while five kutcha houses were partially damaged.
In Kiphire district, landslides were reported from 8 villages, affecting 34 persons. Preliminary reports also indicate damage to seven houses.
In Noklak district, landslides, mudslides and flash floods were reported from five villages. The district administration is continuing damage assessment and monitoring the situation.
In Wokha district, landslides and mudslides affected three villages. Reports have also been received of earlier weather-related impacts, and detailed assessment is ongoing.
In Meluri district, landslides were reported from two villages, affecting six persons. Field verification is being undertaken by the district authorities.
In Mon district, continuous heavy rainfall triggered landslides and flash floods in several locations. Nine persons lost their lives due to landslides, including five persons at Shantham Ward, Mon Town. In Naginimora, four persons who were swept away by flash floods were successfully rescued, of whom one female sustained a hand fracture while three males suffered minor injuries. Four persons remain missing, and search and rescue operations are continuing with the support of the District Administration, SDRF, Police and other line departments.
As per the latest reports, damage to residential houses has also been reported from several districts. In Tuensang district, 22 houses were fully damaged and 25 houses were partially damaged due to landslides and flash floods. In Longleng district, five kutcha houses were fully damaged and five kutcha houses were partially damaged, while Kiphire district reported damage to seven residential houses. Damage assessment is continuing in the affected areas.
Reports of livestock losses have also been received from several districts. As per the latest damage assessment, livestock losses include 11 mithuns, 13 cattle and 3 pigs in Mon district; 1 dog and 1 cat in Kiphire district; 18 pigs in Shamator district; 27 pigs in Wokha district; 5 pigs in Tseminyu district; and 4 mithuns in Noklak district.
The NSDMA, Home Department, is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the District Disaster Management Authorities and other line departments. Search and rescue operations are continuing in the affected areas, while restoration of essential services and detailed damage assessment are underway.
Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and avoid landslide-prone areas, overflowing rivers and vulnerable slopes during periods of continuous rainfall. They are also advised to follow advisories issued by the district administration and concerned authorities.
