The Cook-cum-Helpers Training and Cooking Competition under the PM Poshan Scheme was officially launched today at the Community Educational Centre Society (CECS) Centralized Kitchen by the SDEO Dimapur, in the presence of the Nodal Officer for PM Poshan, Directorate of School Education, Kohima. The event, which will take place in two phases—Phase I from December 16–19, 2024, and Phase II from January 13–18, 2025—aims to bring together cooks and helpers from government schools in Dimapur, Dhansiriphar, Niuland, and Medziphema areas. This initiative seeks to enhance the skills of individuals responsible for preparing meals under the PM Poshan Scheme, focusing on hygiene, nutrition, and efficient cooking practices.


The program began with a welcome address by Subonenba Longkumer, Director of CECS, who highlighted the significance of the PM Poshan Centralized Kitchen run by CECS in Dimapur Urban. An introduction to the training and competition was provided by Khriekethozo Lhoungnu, Nodal Officer for PM Poshan, who underscored the importance of equipping cooks and helpers with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure quality, nutritious meals for students.

Lhoungnu emphasized that the training program aims to enhance participants’ understanding of food safety, nutrition, and efficient cooking techniques, while the competition serves as a platform for showcasing culinary creativity and innovation, adhering to the principles of healthy and balanced meals. The initiative also seeks to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing among participants and to recognize the significant contributions of cook-cum-helpers to the success of this national program.

Chef Supong Longkumer from Breton Patisserie, Chumoukedima, conducted an insightful session on hygiene, food safety, nutrition, and efficient cooking practices. Following this, a live cooking demonstration highlighted innovative techniques and the importance of preserving nutritional value in meals. The event was officially launched by Jevika Kiba, SDEO Dimapur, who described the initiative as a vital step toward improving the quality of mid-day meals in schools. Participants were given the opportunity to interact with experts, share their experiences, and clarify their learning objectives.

Speaking at the event, Kiba, said, “This program not only enhances the skills of cooks and helpers but also ensures that children receive hygienic and nutritious meals, contributing to their overall well-being and academic growth.” She further commended the efforts of CECS in creating a program that integrates skill development with the promotion of better nutritional practices. The Cook-cum-Helpers Training and Cooking Competition reflects the PM Poshan Scheme’s commitment to elevating meal quality in schools, ensuring that it meets nutritional standards while fostering community engagement and skill development. By focusing on innovation, collaboration, and the professional growth of its participants, the program continues to enhance the overall impact of the PM Poshan initiative.
