Tuli, November 6 (MTNews): A day long Cooperative Awareness Program, sponsored by National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI), New Delhi and organized by Cooperative Training Centre, Medziphema, was held on Saturday at Tuli Town Hall under Mokokchung district.

 

 

Around 180 farmers and entrepreneurs from in and around Tuli attended the program, an update said. Addressing the program as the guest of honor, Shashank Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung called upon the participants to take maximum advantage of this awareness program.

 

Singh opined that the Naga society is well suited for cooperative form of business organization as the democratic principles like discussions, deliberation and community participation in decision making are inherent to our community.

 

He also observed that there are two major potentials in Tuli area.
The potential of the place, where Tuli being a flat land and strategic, has the potential for cooperative marketing and production.

 

Another potential is sector specific. Sectors like agriculture, horticulture, tea, milk union, arecanut, rubber and agar cultivation, are very potential to Tuli area, he said.
Temjen Longkumer, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, (RCS) Nagaland delivered keynote address.
The program was chaired by Chubamenla, Vice-Principal, CTC.

 

This awareness program was organized to sensitize the citizen of Tuli area about the benefits of cooperative form of business, create awareness about the recent developments and the new programs and schemes available with the newly created Ministry of Cooperation. Apart from the awareness creation, Technical sessions on various agri and allied sectors were taken up by officials from various departments, the update informed.

RCS, ARCS Office Mokokchung spoke on “Cooperative as Economic Enterprise,” “Enhancing Livelihood through Improved Livestock Management” by Dr Toshiwati, Manager, Pig Breeding Centre, Merangkong, Mokokchung, “ Enhancing Fisheries Productivity” by Neken Kichu, AFI and Temsu Longchar AFI, District Fishery Office, Mokokchung, “Transforming Agriculture Practices” by Amongla C. Sub-Div. Agri Officer (SDAO), Tuli while Watila Longkumer, Branch Manager, NSCB Ltd, Tuli spoke on “Financial Literacy.”
