Mokokchung, 08 April (MTNews): Echoing the Angami Public Organisation (APO), the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) has asked the Nagaland State Government to “distance itself from the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA),” which it said was “no longer a mandated organization.”

The CPO President, Vezuhu Keyho in a letter to the Nagaland Chief Secretary said that the Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA) had disassociated itself from the NMA since 2017, “and so, the NMA do not in any way represent the welfare and interest of our sons and daughters.”

“The deliberate attempt by certain NMA members to dilute the customary laws and traditions of our people and flagrant disregard shown to the popular sentiments of the Nagas is becoming almost intolerable to digest to the extent that a permanent and unhealthy wedge of suspicion and mistrust is being sown between the two genders of the society,” the CPO president said.

The CPO further said that any individual, group or organization that is not mandated by the people has “no business in tinkering and experimenting with the customary laws and traditions of our people.” It also said, “as far as the customs and traditions of our people are concerned, and any desire or plans to make changes to them are concerned, the NMA nor any un-mandated person or group has no business in interfering with our customary laws and traditions.”

It further said that CPO is the only mandated organization which has the “popular support of its people and the moral right to speak on behalf of the Chakhesang people.”

It further stated that the CPO should be consulted if and when any discussion and deliberations for change or modifications are required on any issue that has to do with the Chakhesang people, their customs and traditions, beliefs, and their land and its resources.

The CPO hoped that the government will seriously consider the above “so that civil societies can assist the government in policy making and implementation of its programs which will certainly help in restraining social unrest and in maintaining peace and tranquility in our state
