Mokokchung, 15 April (MTNews): Creative Hearts in collaboration with Jubilee Memorial College Art and Photography Club organized a painting competition and an art exhibition cum sale from various homegrown artists from Mokokchung on 15 April in commemoration of World Art Day at Jubilee Memorial College, Mokokchung.
48 individuals participated in the painting competition which was open to three categories of artists: Category I – Class 5 to Class 8, Category II – Class 9 to 12 and Category III – Open Category (College students and Age 19 & above).
11 Artist participated in the Art exhibition. There were stalls from JMC Culinary Club, Creative Hearts, Purity and Tsungsang Jamir and Smokey Kitchen
Dr. Imtiwati Jamir, Principal, JMC in his address during the prize distribution ceremony said that art is more than beauty. He said that art is demonstrated through literature, painting etc and that art lives on even after an artist dies.
He also said that art should be promoted and appreciated as the New Education Policy also emphasizes Art & Appreciation as part of the curriculum and therefore more importance should be given to Art.
He went on to say that art is about creating new knowledge that allows a society to progress, and we must therefore produce new knowledge. He concluded by wishing that all artists would ascend higher and that their thirst for creativity would never be quenched.
