Mokokchung’s healthcare and education sectors received a significant boost on Wednesday with two major Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives that brought a Rs 32.06 lakh Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance to Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) and 45 teaching aids and IT systems to Fazl Ali College.
The ALS ambulance, donated by the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), is equipped with ventilator support and other life-saving emergency medical equipment, enabling healthcare professionals to provide advanced critical care during patient transportation. The project, implemented through the Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, is expected to strengthen emergency response, improve pre-hospital care and facilitate the safe referral of critically ill patients to higher medical centres.
Flagging off the ambulance, Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer described it as a critical addition to the district’s healthcare infrastructure, particularly during the “golden hour” when timely medical intervention can save lives.
He said the proposal for the ambulance was conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic after the district experienced the challenges of transporting critically ill patients without advanced life-support facilities.
Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma said the ambulance would strengthen emergency healthcare not only for Mokokchung but also for neighbouring districts served by IMDH. He said the district administration pursued the proposal with POWERGRID, leading to its approval under the company’s CSR program.
In a separate program, Longkumer inaugurated teaching aids and IT equipment donated to Fazl Ali College by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) under its CSR initiative.
The project includes 15 All-in-One computers, 10 interactive smart panels, 10 public address lectern systems and 10 UPS units with battery backup, aimed at modernising classrooms and strengthening digital learning.
Longkumer said the facilities would enhance teaching and learning and help students acquire the digital knowledge and practical skills required in an increasingly competitive world. He urged the college to ensure proper utilisation and maintenance of the equipment for the benefit of future generations.
Deputy Commissioner Verma thanked BPCL for supporting educational infrastructure in the district and expressed hope that the new facilities would contribute to improving the quality of education and encourage innovative teaching practices.
Officials of POWERGRID and BPCL said the projects reflect their commitment to supporting public welfare through investments in healthcare and education under their CSR programs.
