CSU and NSACS organize HIV & STI awareness seminar in Pfutsero

The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU), in collaboration with the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society, successfully organized a seminar on HIV & STI awareness on March 28, 2024, at Union Christian School, Pfutsero. The seminar aimed to educate students about HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections), their prevention, and the importance of early detection. The event saw participation from students of various high schools and higher secondary schools, with an attendance of more than 150 students.

Rhilo Chiero, Finance Secretary of CSU, chaired the session. The event began with an invocation by Medo Lomi, a teaching faculty member of UCS Pfutsero.

Pfhülo Sara, President of CSU, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of awareness and education in preventing the spread of HIV and STIs. He highlighted the role of young students in disseminating accurate information and breaking stigmas associated with these infections.

The main session was led by Hierhotho Kajiri, DIS DISHA, Phek, who provided in-depth information on: The causes, symptoms, and transmission of HIV and STIs; Preventive measures, including safe practices and medical interventions; The importance of early testing and treatment; and Addressing misconceptions and stigmas related to HIV/AIDS.

An interactive discussion followed the presentation, where students shared concerns, asked questions, and gained clarity on various aspects of HIV and STI prevention. This session provided a platform for open dialogue, encouraging students to be proactive in their health choices.

As part of the initiative, a voluntary blood testing drive was conducted, allowing students to undergo HIV screening and counseling. This step aimed to promote early detection and reduce the stigma associated with HIV testing.
