The Combined Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) and the Nagaland Net Qualified Forum (NNQF) have expressed strong dissatisfaction over the state government’s handling of recruitment under the Higher Education department, citing a lack of transparency and communication. The two organizations have urged the government to immediately approve the creation of 129 assistant professor posts and publicly clarify details of the 34 posts recently requisitioned to the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC).

At a press conference held at the Kohima Press Club on Thursday, the associations revealed that their request for a meeting with the department and other authorities concerned had been denied, despite the issuance of important government notifications on July 11 regarding the creation and requisition of posts.

Videkhono, representing the NNQF noted that while 34 assistant professor posts in Humanities, Commerce, and Science streams had been requisitioned, there are no details on the subject nor on which subjects are reserved for Backward quota.

She demanded further clarity on the type of subjects and also on the nature of the post.

She further questioned the status of 147 assistant professor and librarian posts that had been nullified following a Cabinet decision, asking: “What happens them?”

CTAN member Kaqheto Kughutu said the association had obtained a detailed breakdown of the 129 proposed posts via RTI prior to the latest notification. According to the RTI reply: 31 posts were identified in Arts and Commerce; 69 in Science, and 29 earmarked for two new government colleges (11 for Arts at Mangkolemba and 18 for Science at Wakching).

He noted that while this breakdown formed part of an earlier proposal, the new July 11 notification mentions “seven sets of posts” without providing details, leaving aspirants in confusion. “We want to know whether this new notification overrides the previous one,” he said.

CTAN Convenor Meshenlo Kath informed that the organisations had written to the Higher Education department, seeking a meeting with the Manpower Rationalisation Committee (MRC) for clarification. However, no positive response was received.

“We appeal to the MRC to expedite the approval of the 129 posts and forward the requisition to NPSC without further delay,” Kath said. “We request the MRC not to create more obstacles for qualified aspirants.”

CTAN and NNQF had earlier issued two ultimatums, demanding the requisitioning of the 147 cancelled posts, with July 12 set as the deadline. Following the government’s July 11 notification, they decided to defer their agitation, but now say that unless transparency and prompt action follow, further steps may be reconsidered.

Kath also raised a broader concern: why departments such as Forest, Excise, and Police do not fall under the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB), which was created to ensure fairness in state recruitment.
