Mokokchung, July 29 (MTNews): NI Jamir GHSS celebrated its annual Cultural Day program under the theme ‘My Culture, My Identity’ at the school premises in Yimyu Ward, Mokokchung on Friday.

Vice Principal, M. Limasunep Imchen, said that the day was observed annually to promote cultural awareness among students and to provide them the chance to carry on the rich traditions.

Imchen remarked, “You should be conscious of your culture and tradition in order for you to know who you are. No matter where you go, you will still be a Naga.”
“In addition to helping to preserve and celebrate the rich culture of our people,” he continued, “students must also engage in experiential learning.”

He continued by saying that a student’s holistic approach and holistic growth should be all-inclusive and that studying exclusively from books is insufficient to be considered a ‘full education’; rather, one must learn about culture, traditions, social skills, communication, etc.

The cultural day was celebrated with students from the Red, Green, Yellow, and Blue houses competing in a variety of events such as folk song, sticky rice cooking, top spinning, rice sifting, bamboo basket weaving, bamboo stilt walking, banana stump cutting, catapult shooting, seven stones, hopscotch, greasy pole climbing, tug of war, and best attire.

The NI Jamir Government Higher Secondary School has an enrollment of about 180 students ranging from classes 7 to 12 and is attended by students from various Naga tribes.
