On the first day of the job expo, around 1,500 participants and aspirants registered, with a significant turnout from across Nagaland, including about 500 registrations from Mokokchung, 45 from Shamator District, and 35 from Mon District.

The Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) served as the main sponsor, with Tongpang Ozukum, Advisor, Water Resources, Government of Nagaland and Chairman of DPDB, Mokokchung gracing the event as special guest. The District Skill Committee initiated the expo, which was later adopted by the DPDB, according to DC Mokokchung.

A diverse array of recruiting firms participated, including international representation from ARMS Incorporation in partnership with Japan, alongside 3 firms from outside Nagaland and 24 local ones. Industries ranging from hospitality to education were represented, offering attendees a wide spectrum of career opportunities. Strategic partnerships with entities such as the Investment and Development Authority of India (IDAN) and the Business Association of Nagaland (BAN) further enriched the expo.

Participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity the expo provided. Pheangna, a participant from Mon, told this newspaper that she, along with 34 others from Mon, attended. She said that they learned about the expo from the church and that all their expenses for traveling were provided by the church. “This is a very helpful experience,” she said of the event.

Temsukala, a postgraduate student, said she turned up to the event seeking teaching opportunities. However, to her dismay, the recruiter – a High School in Wokha – wanted a headmaster with five years of experience. “I am a little disappointed personally, but I feel like this is such a great opportunity. I may not be getting recruited today, but I learned something crucial today, and that is, there are plenty of opportunities apart from government jobs,” she said.

A civil engineering graduate also shared his experience, saying, “I was into construction and in the registration form they said they had the placement for construction and I selected that, but unfortunately, none of the firms provide construction jobs so I am slightly disappointed but I believe this is a very good initiative.”

Er Imlisunep, Secretary of the planning committee, speaking with Mokokchung Times, admitted to starting small with about a Rs 5.5 lakh budget and added that they had not reached out to larger firms as it was their first time.

“The District Skill Committee (DSC), BAN, and IDAN, all of us participated in inviting the firms,” he said, adding, “The DSC has been active for three years, and its main purpose is to serve as a facilitator and provide training. For instance, the DC, as chairman, can ensure that certain departments participate; the MCCI can ensure that all shopkeepers in Mokokchung participate, and so on. So, the role of the DSC is to facilitate between the recruiters and the seekers,” he explained. However, Chairman of the DPDB, Tongpang Ozukum, vowed during his speech that they would try to organize a bigger event like this.

The primary objective of the job expo is to facilitate employment opportunities for unemployed youths of the state by bringing employers and job seekers together on a common platform. 28 partner-companies are offering job opportunities to the unemployed youths at this two-day mega job expo.
