Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS, along with his team, conducted a thorough inspection of the deteriorating road conditions in Kohima on 8 August 2024. The team included the Additional SP of Kohima, the Revenue Officer of Kohima, the Executive Engineer (Urban), the Executive Engineer (NPWD NH), the Executive Engineer (NPWD R&B), and other officials.
The inspection was conducted along NH-29, where the team assessed the sinking zone near the Old KMC dumping site. It was decided to channelize the water flow from above the road into the drainage system to prevent further damage. Additionally, the team resolved to clear and repair the Jotsoma bypass road within two days.
At the sinking road near the GREF Mandir in Dzüdza Village, Jotsoma, the decision was made to regulate the entry of heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) into Kohima along the National Highway. Commercial trucks will now be parked on a single lane on one side of the four-lane highway, further down from the sinking area, to mitigate risk.
The team also decided to ensure regular patrolling by police personnel on the national highway, and a tow truck will be arranged for emergency operations. Additionally, NPWD NH will clear drains and carry out road repair work at the sinking zones. The public is advised to exercise caution while traveling through these areas.
Regarding the box-cutting road, the team decided to lay a cement concrete road on Saturday, with the work to be carried out by the Executive Engineer (Urban). Vehicular traffic at the box-cutting site will be suspended on 10th and 11th August 2024 to facilitate road repairs.
