Kohima, 18 May (MTNews): The Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Shanavas C IAS has directed all concerned Area Administrative Officers under Kohima district to not give Scheduled Tribe/Backward Tribe/Indigenous Certificates to children of non-Naga fathers and non-Naga children adopted by Naga parents.

 

The order dated 12 May further directed the administrative officers to maintain strict compliance while verifying the authenticity of the applicants before forwarding to the issuing authority.

 

Further, all the concerned Area Administrative Officers under Kohima district have been directed to issue similar instructions at the village councils and GBs within their respective jurisdiction for strict adherence of the Government order.

 

NSF lauds decision

Following the Kohima Deputy Commissioner’s order, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) lauded the decision and expressed its delight. The federation also appreciated the resolution adopted by the Government of Nagaland vide P & AR on No. RCBT-5/87 (Pt) Dated Kohima, the 11th June 2012 towards the same.

 

“This is in line with the standing resolution of the NSF that the principle of ‘Nagas by Blood and not adoption’ has to be followed while determining who an actual Naga is,” the NSF stated and appealed to all concerned for strict compliance to the said order.
