Kohima, 1 June (MTNews): Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Shanavas C, has emphasized the urgent need for widespread community participation to reduce the child mortality rate in Nagaland. Shanavas called for mass awareness and involvement in the First 1000 Days program, highlighting its importance in promoting child health and well-being. He expressed hope that the message of the program, which focuses on the critical early stages of a child’s development, will effectively reach the rural areas through various channels such as relevant departments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and self-help groups.

Recognizing the vital role of the Health and Family Welfare Department in ensuring the success of the program, the Deputy Commissioner urged them to prioritize the functionality of Village Health Committees. These committees play a crucial role in disseminating accurate and essential information at the grassroots level, and Shanavas urged the department to ensure their effectiveness.

Emphasizing the significance of convergence among all stakeholders, Shanavas called for collective efforts and community engagement to achieve the targeted goals of the First 1000 Days program. He stressed the importance of collaboration and coordination between government agencies, NGOs, community organizations, and individuals to maximize the impact of the initiative.

In conclusion, the Deputy Commissioner urged the public to take the issue seriously and actively participate in efforts to reduce child mortality. By working together and ensuring the availability of accurate information and proper healthcare services at the village level, the goal of improving child health and reducing mortality rates can be achieved. Shanavas emphasized that every individual has a role to play in this endeavor, and their collective actions will make a significant difference in the lives of children in Nagaland.
