In yet another move aimed at ensuring safety, security, and better management of the public ground, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma IAS, on August 5 issued a new set of regulations governing the use of the Imkongmeren Sports Complex. The order comes into effect immediately.
It may be mentioned here that the district administration has issued similar directives over the years, although the extent of their effective implementation remains debatable. The most recent comparable order was issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung in September 2024.
According to the latest directive, the sports ground will remain closed between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM daily. “No gathering shall be permitted other than sports related activity, during prescribed hours,” the order stated.
Furthermore, the order stipulates that no entry of vehicles shall be permitted inside the ground “except for permitted events.”
A strict ban has also been imposed on the use of alcohol and restricted drugs within the premises. Littering, particularly the disposal of plastic and garbage, has been prohibited.
“Anyone found in violation to the above directive, shall [be] penalised with fine and other necessary action as per provision of law,” the order added.
