DC Noklak highlights reckless driving despite poor road conditions in the district

The Deputy Commissioner of Noklak, Arikumba, pointed out that despite the poor road conditions in the district, many drivers continue to drive recklessly without respecting other road users. He made this remark during an awareness program on road safety and a free eye check-up camp held at the DC’s conference hall in Noklak on January 28, 2025.

To prevent accidents, the DC advised drivers to control their speed, obey all traffic rules, remain alert while driving, and avoid using harmful substances. Urging attendees to properly maintain their vehicles, he asserted that most accidents are caused by inadequate vehicle maintenance.

SDO (Civil) Noklak, Vikhoto Richa, spoke on the Good Samaritan Scheme and the Hit & Run Compensation Scheme. He explained that the Good Samaritan Scheme, launched by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, encourages citizens to assist accident victims without fear of legal repercussions. The scheme aims to motivate bystanders to help those injured in road accidents.

Vikhoto Richa also discussed the Hit & Run Compensation Scheme, highlighting that it provides financial assistance to victims of hit-and-run accidents as part of the Motor Vehicles Act.

EAC Noklak, Menlom Phom, in his presentation on road safety, explained that road users include pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, passengers in vehicles, and anyone traveling on public roads for transportation. He also emphasized the importance of wearing seat belts and helmets to reduce the risk of fatal or severe head injuries in accidents.

Constable P. Khaikho Khiam of DEF Noklak elaborated on the Motor Vehicles Act, sharing details about the use of signal lights, the importance of side mirrors, designated no-parking zones, and the requirement to wear proper footwear while driving.
