Phek, 21 November (MTNews): The Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Kuko Mero, NCS, has urged the people of Phek district to leverage the benefits of “Cooperative Societies” and highlighted the immense potential for cultivating vast agricultural lands through cooperative initiatives, enabling diverse forms of agricultural farming. He said this while speaking as the special guest at the 70th All India Cooperative Week celebration on 20 November at Town Council Hall, Phek. The event was held under the theme, “Role of Cooperatives in Making India a $5 Trillion Economy and Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

Emphasizing the significance of “Cooperative Societies,” DC Mero expressed appreciation for the active involvement of farmers in the district engaged in various forms of farming. He commended the achievements of these farmers and shared success stories from Cooperative Societies in mainland India. DC Mero cited instances where extensive cultivation of sugarcane and almonds were successfully undertaken through cooperative policies, encouraging the farming communities in Phek to earnestly embrace cooperative principles for increased production and sales.

The program, chaired by Jacob Khing of SRCS, Phek, included a presentation on the Significance of the Celebration Day delivered by Kivi Ritse. A special performance by Mathu Farming C.S Ltd of Upper Khomi village in Phek added to the festivities.

A notable highlight of the event was the sharing of a success story by a farmer from Tsapvuri Coop. Society Ltd in Phokhungri Town, under the Meluri Sub-Division of Phek district. The farmer underscored the positive outcomes achieved through Cooperative Societies.

The event concluded with an invocation prayer and a Vote of Thanks offered by Moses T. Fithu of Zhupu Baptist Church Agri & Allied C. S Ltd and Tsuknungwati SRCS, Phek.
