In accordance with the Finance Department’s Lottery Branch Letter dated May 1st, 2024, regarding the sale of illegal lotteries in Nagaland, Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, IAS, has directed all concerned parties that the sale of illegal lottery games such as Shillong Teer, Nagaland Arrow, Raja Rani, and others, within the town, is completely illegal and contravenes the Lottery (Regulation) Act, 1998.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that any person acting as an agent, selling, distributing, or purchasing tickets for such lotteries, shall be punishable with rigorous imprisonment for a term of up to 2 (Two) years, or with a fine, or with both. Furthermore, such offenses shall be cognizable and non-bailable.
Mali further directed the Zunheboto Chamber of Commerce & Industries to check and inform all shopkeepers to cease these activities. Additionally, the Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC) and head DBs (Deputy Commissioners) were instructed to inspect the sale of such illegal lotteries by shopkeepers and report to the undersigned office monthly.
