The Dapfhütsumia Cricket Club (DCC) Kohima organized the inaugural Super Six Soft Ball Cricket Tournament, titled the “DCC Summer Cup,” on June 28 and 29. Nineteen teams registered for the championship title, marking a promising start for the tournament. The first day featured eleven matches, culminating in the quarter-finals that commenced at 8:00 am the following day. Throughout the event, players showcased remarkable athleticism and sportsmanship, creating memorable moments on the field, an update received here said.
From the intense quarter-finals to the competitive semi-finals, every match was hard-fought, with only the best teams advancing. Ultimately, Vizo CC and Kati Super Strikers emerged as the finalists. Kati Super Strikers won the coin toss and chose to field first. Vizo CC’s power hitters set a challenging target of 79/3 in six overs, led by Vizokhotuo Nguzhü’s top score of 35 runs. In response, Kati Super Strikers managed 61 runs for the loss of one wicket, with Ntsenlo scoring 45 crucial runs. Despite their efforts, Kati Super Strikers fell short, and Vizo CC celebrated their victory as champions of the 1st Edition of the DCC Summer Cup. Vizokhotuo Nguzhü was honored as the Man of the Match.
The tournament concluded with a brief closing ceremony graced by Neisedelie Sachü, President of the Dapfhütsumia Youth Organisation, who encouraged all participants to pursue their dreams relentlessly. Vizo CC received a prize of Rs 20,000, while the runners-up, Kati Super Strikers, took home Rs 10,000. The Man of the Match was awarded Rs 2000 for his outstanding performance. Through events like this, DCC aims to promote cricket as a gentleman’s game and foster camaraderie among all participants.
