The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Mokokchung recently concluded Child Rights Week, observed from November 14 to 20, 2025, featuring events focused on child rights and protection.

The week was themed “Every Child Matters – Every Right Counts.” November is also Adoption Month, so awareness campaigns on adoption were conducted simultaneously.

DCPU Mokokchung concludes Child Rights Week

The week-long Child Rights campaign focused on institutional care, the church, and the community. Under the supervision of District Child Protection Officer Shri Samuel Kapu, DCPU Mokokchung visited Care and Support Children Home under institutional care.

On November 14, 2025, commemorating Children’s Day, DCPU Mokokchung visited the Care and Support Children Home in Tsümarshiong, Chungtia, where a painting competition was organised for children across different categories. Shri Ajay Moktan, IAS, Assistant Commissioner of Mokokchung District, graced the occasion and the day concluded with a feast.

On November 16, 2025, DCPU conducted awareness programmes at Chungtia Baptist Church and Sabangya Baptist Church with Smt. T Asola Imsong, Protection Officer NIC, DCPU, Mokokchung, and Imnatola District Supervisor, DCPU Child Helpline, as resource persons. They emphasised legal adoption, child rights, and services provided by the Child Helpline.

A one-day sensitisation and awareness programme on child protection and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was held at the Community Hall, Chungtiayimsen, on November 19, 2025. The programme focused on the community and migrant workers in brick manufacturing units in Chungtiayimsen for Mangkolemba Block.

Child Rights Week concluded with a radio conversation featuring T. Asula Imsong, Protection Officer NIC DCPU, Imnatola District Supervisor Child Helpline, and Takotila Jamir, Supervisor Child Helpline, discussing child rights and protection.

The programmes sought to raise awareness about safeguarding children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation while highlighting the responsibility of individuals and communities in ensuring child safety and well-being.
