Dimapur, 8 October (MTNews): The Dimapur District GaonBura Association (DDGBA) has “suspended” Abdul Kayum Talukdar, the Gaon Burah (GB) of New Market Dimapur from the GB association for a period of three months commencing from 8 October 2023. The DDGBA announced this during a press conference on Sunday.
It was emphasized that the GB association does not have the authority to remove or terminate him as his appointment was made by the Government of Nagaland.
In addition, the DDGBA stated its intention to forward their findings as collected by its fact-finding committee to the district administration on Monday, allowing the authorities to make a decision on this matter.
Turning to RPP president Joel Naga’s clarification, the DDGBA expressed their discontent with his assertion that the GBship is unnecessary in urban Nagaland. Their dissatisfaction also extended to his statement, “Article 371A cannot be implemented in urban areas.”
In response, the DDGBA raised the question of whether Dimapur is not a part of the state of Nagaland and pointed out that such a statement directly contradicts the provisions of the Indian Constitution.
