The Deaf Prayer Fellowship Kohima celebrated its Pre-Christmas Celebration on December 8, 2024, at the De Operettas Music Institute in Kohima.
Atoshili Zhimo, Deputy Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, shared her thoughts on “What Christmas Means to Me.” She emphasized that Christmas represents love, peace, and comfort, symbolizing the birth of Jesus Christ.
Zhimo expressed her confidence and pride in Jesus, describing Him as the most reliable person she can share her deepest feelings with. She highlighted the significance of Christmas decorations, using the example of Christmas leaves, which symbolize Jesus’ unwavering love, even in difficult times.
She also compared Christmas balls to Jesus’ ageless and endless love, adding that the white color of the balls signifies the purity of the Son of God. Zhimo concluded by sharing that these symbols remind her of the true meaning of Christmas.
The Pre-Christmas Celebration of the Deaf Prayer Fellowship Kohima was attended by more than 30 people. The fellowship is an initiative led by an elite group of individuals, with Surhuveyi Tetseo, proprietor of the De Operettas Music Institute Kohima, serving as Chairman. The fellowship is run by eleven core members, including Vice Chairman Vekutilü Ngone, co-proprietor of Tabitha Enabling Academy, General Secretary Asano Thong, co-proprietor of Tabitha Enabling Academy, Chaplain A Eliza Chishi, and other core members.
The Deaf Prayer Fellowship Kohima was launched in 2023 by Rev. Dr. Zelhou Keyho, General Secretary of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC). The fellowship has approximately 25 deaf community members who gather regularly on the second and fourth Sundays of every month. Deaf community members from different churches attend the fellowship regularly.
Surhuveyi Tetseo, Chairman of the Deaf Prayer Fellowship Kohima, informed that the fellowship aims to locate and connect with all deaf community members from different churches in Nagaland. The goal is to raise awareness, educate, and guide the deaf community, supporting them in pursuing education and learning basic sign language. The fellowship also seeks to create opportunities for the deaf community.
