Unicorns Tuensang, Changtongya, Chungtia, MH-10 Kohima enter semifinals
Unicorns Tuensang, Changtongya Volleyball Association (CVA), Savage Setters Volleyball Club Chungtia and MH-10 Kohima have entered the semifinals of the Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2026 after winning their respective quarterfinal matches at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Mokokchung on Thursday.
Unicorns Tuensang survived a five-set thriller against Pangti Volleyball Team in the opening quarterfinal, winning 21-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-13, 15-10. The match saw several swings in momentum before Unicorns Tuensang secured the deciding set.
In the second quarterfinal, CVA defeated Bokato Memorial Team in straight sets, 25-23, 25-21, 25-20. The Changtongya side entered the tournament on the back of its title-winning campaign at the 14th Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy.
Savage Setters Volleyball Club Chungtia also secured a straight-set victory, defeating Yangs Brothers 25-13, 25-18, 25-21 in the third quarterfinal.
The fourth quarterfinal produced another meeting between familiar opponents as MH-10 Kohima faced defending champions Evergreen Club Ungma in a rematch of last year’s final. Evergreen had defeated MH-10 in a five-set contest to claim the 2025 title, but MH-10 reversed the result this time with a 25-21, 22-25, 25-15, 25-12 victory, ending the defending champions’ title defence.
The semifinals and final will be played on Friday from 12 noon onwards. The first semifinal will see Unicorns Tuensang take on Savage Setters Volleyball Club Chungtia, while the second semifinal promises a much-anticipated clash between two of Nagaland volleyball’s familiar rivals, Changtongya Volleyball Association and MH-10 Kohima. Both sides will meet with a place in the final at stake, setting up one of the key contests of the tournament’s final day.
The third-place match is scheduled for 3:30 pm, followed by the final at 5 pm.
The tournament, organised by the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association, got underway on September 22 with 14 teams from Mokokchung, Tuensang, Wokha, Zunheboto and Kohima districts.
