Speaking to MT, Nokyeing said the team is currently self-practicing, relying on raw talent and homegrown players. This year’s squad for the MDFA will consist of players with youngest being about 16 years to 21, with most being young and new to major tournaments.

Unlike the Dr T Ao Trophy, where Mon District lifted the title, this year KSUM will focus on homegrown, new, and young players, according to the president.

“A lot of local tournaments are being played across Mon District throughout the year. We are selecting players from these competitions. For some, MDFA will be their first major tournament, and outstanding performers could be selected for the Dr T Ao Trophy next year.”

The current squad includes 2-3 experienced players, while Nokyeing highlighted that the team has 4-5 quality players who could make a significant impact. “We are hoping for the best performance,” he added.

On squad selection, Nokyeing explained that trials were conducted during local tournaments, and players were chosen from various parts of Mon District and Mokokchung. “Many players from KSUM who played in MDFA got the opportunity to play in the Dr T Ao Trophy next year. We hope the same pathway continues for our young talent,” he said.

KSUM’s approach this year signals a shift towards developing youth and building a strong future pipeline for football among the Konyak Nagas, while still maintaining the club’s competitive edge in the MDFA Trophy.
