Imphal, 30 July (MTNews): A delegation of 21 Opposition MPs led by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of Indian National Congress called on Manipur Governor Anusuiya Ukey at Raj Bhavan, Imphal today and apprised the governor of the prevailing situation in Manipur and requested taking all effective measures to restore peace.

The delegation arrived Imphal yesterday and visited various relief camps located in Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Imphal West districts. The team concluded their two-day visit to Manipur today.

 

During the meeting with the Governor, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury apprised the situation in which the displaced people are staying in relief camps and informed the governor that they are in “pain, sorrow and feeling of depression and fear in their minds.”

 

Chowdhury informed the Governor that it is not only a problem of law and order but an ethnic conflict which needs special attention. The Manipur Governor welcomed the team for their visit to Manipur and appreciated their efforts for the restoration of peace and normalcy.

 

The Governor informed them that she is fully aware of the problem faced by the people and that both the central and state governments are making relentless efforts to contain the situation and bring peace and normalcy at the earliest.

 

She also informed the team that concerned authorities have been instructed to provide necessary items to the inmates of the relief camps.

 

“Governor welcomed the team and appealed to extend their fullest cooperation to restore peace and tranquility through a peaceful dialogue with the representatives of CSOs of both the communities to maintain status quo ante of age old tradition of peaceful co-existence,” Raj Bhavan Imphal stated in an update.
