In an effort to preserve traditional practices amid in the transition of society away from homeland, the Delhi Ao Senso Telungjem (DAST) celebrated Tsüngremmung on August 3, 2024 at the Nagaland Armed Police Camp in Wazirabad.

To exhibit the ancestral tradition of the festival and to impart the younger generations the essence of the tradition, the event involved all age groups with major role in organizing the festival.

According to an update from Imsenchuba Pongen, the president of the DAST, the event featured exclusively cultural and traditional performances, actively involving the entire crowd gathered for the event.

The Planning Committee focused on a hands-on approach to teaching ancestral social practices, particularly to children and youth.

“Realizing conservation of tradition, the primary focus of the Planning Committee was on heuristic and empirical approach of imparting ancestral social practices principally to children and youth,” he said.

Special sessions were organized to impart traditional practices and cultural values, benefiting all Ao children and the children of Ao in-laws.

Elders participated in activities such as tug-of-war, group dances, and folk songs, and enjoyed traditional dishes.

 

“The celebration was simple with no monologue and honoree in order to provide more time to the traditional activities and to effectuate the aspiration of the community efficiently,” the update said.

The event concluded with a feast of Naga cuisine, prepared under the supervision of Nagaland Armed Police elders.
