In what can be termed a major development in Mokokchung, the Old MMC Building ‘B’ Block located at Daily Bazar, adjacent to the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) Complex, is being demolished to make space for a new structure. Sanctioned by the Department of Municipal Affairs under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) Scheme, the new G+4 building, worth over Rs 8 crore, will be integrated with the existing MMC Complex and will house both a market complex and the MMC office.

Demolition of the old building began in the last week of August, and the new building is expected to be completed within two years.
Meanwhile, it has been learned that funds for retrofitting the block affected during the fire accident at the MMC Complex on February 3, 2024, are also likely to be sanctioned soon.
