The Delhi Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (DENSU) has raised concerns over a troubling incident involving a young woman from one of the Eastern Nagaland communities. According to a report shared by the union, the woman, in her late teens, was brought to Dimapur by a woman from her own community. The woman introduced her to a non-local lady in Dimapur, who eventually gained her trust and took her to Jaipur, where she was employed at a questionable wellness spa.
After a short time, the victim was moved to Delhi by the same non-local woman and an accomplice from Jaipur. In Delhi, she was introduced to a man who arranged housemaid jobs. However, after just a week of work, the victim was coerced by the fraud agent from Dimapur to leave her job and move to a male acquaintance in Noida, where she endured severe physical and verbal abuse.
After managing to escape, the woman ran back to the man who initially arranged her job. DENSU quickly intervened, rescuing the victim and organizing her safe return home.
The victim’s return was facilitated through the generosity of Shri. Wangpang Konyak, MLA & Advisor, Government of Nagaland, who financed her flight, as well as the coordinated efforts of various Eastern Nagaland-based Students’ Unions. She has now been safely reunited with her family.
This incident is part of a troubling trend in which young, vulnerable individuals from rural areas are targeted by fraudulent recruitment schemes promising better job opportunities. DENSU has urged village leaders in the region to stay vigilant, spread awareness, and report suspicious activities to the authorities. The union also called on its members in Delhi to stay connected with the union, as those unregistered often face the most difficulties in such situations.
