Süngratsü, December 1 (MTNews): Department of Sociology, Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung visited Aonglar Elderly Home located at Süngratsü Village, Mokokchung as part of their community extension service on 1 December with 54 students and six faculty members.

 

 

A prayer fellowship was held with the residents of the elderly home where Dr. Adangla Changkija, HOD, Department of Sociology, said that the concept of ‘old age home’ was only heard of and seen in other countries and was never a part of our society but today it has become a necessity in our society too.

 

She said that, with no welfare measures like other foreign countries, old age homes depend on charity and as responsible citizens, she said that the students can play an important role and encouraged them to take up such changes is society as research topics and relate it in line with sociology of aging.

 

Mechungla, a resident of the elderly home thanked the students for the visit. She said that a lot of times, elderly people do not get the love and attention that they need and many a time, they are left alone but the existence of elderly homes like the one where she is staying now gives them solace. She encouraged the students to be dedicated and be sincere in everything that they do and to use whatever they learn today in productive ways so that it will help them become great.

 

The fellowship ended with a mass prayer after which the students interacted and shared tea and snacks with the residents.
