The Deputy Chairperson of the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), Lanuakum, is attending a National Conference of Chairpersons of Urban Local Bodies in the States and Union Territories on “The Role of Urban Local Bodies in Strengthening Constitutional Democracy and Nation Building” as the official Representative of Nagaland state.

The conference is being held at the International Centre for Automotive Technology, Gurugram, Haryana, on July 3 and 4, 2025.

Nagaland government nomindated Lanuakum in response to a communication from the Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha, which invited all states and union territories to participate in the conference organized by the Parliament of India in collaboration with the Haryana Legislative Assembly. The letter emphasized the importance of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) as “foundational pillars of our governance architecture” and their role as “a critical anchor of our democratic polity.”

According to the invitation, the Parliament of India, as the apex elected body, is taking this initiative to provide a platform for Chairpersons of ULBs across the country to share their views and opinions on the constitutional role and future challenges of urban governance.

The Commissioner & Secretary of the Municipal Affairs Department has also nominated Kevilenuo Solo, Deputy Director, Directorate of Municipal Affairs, as the Nodal Officer to coordinate with the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

As per the Lok Sabha Secretariat’s letter, the State Governments or respective ULBs will make travel arrangements to and from Gurugram. The host organizations will provide hotel accommodation and local transport between the hotel and the conference venue.
