WSH issues list of demands
Meanwhile, following the November 7 incident, the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) has on Tuesday issued a press release demanding “immediate suspension of the IR personnel and the commander who opened fire at the protestors which provoked the situation to get worst.” It also demanded immediate eviction of “illegal encroachers and maintain status quo at the disputed site as per government orders dated June 25 2019 and July 8, 2019.
Further, WSH also demanded that since Kiyevi village falls under the jurisdiction of Chumoukedima district, all administrative and police arrangements should be deployed from Chumoukedima district.
WSH also demanded immediate arrest of the “so called Lamhainamdi GB” who it said issued a statement in
one of the news channels that “he will not spare any Sumis whether in the village or town and he will do them harm with wood, daos etc.” WSS added that such inflammatory language should be dealt with strictly as it will lead to further escalation on communallines. “If such similar statementi isssued by the SumiGBs the situation will go out of hand and beyond control. Therefore immediate arrest of the particular person be done without fail,” WSH stated.
WSH also alleged that the incident happened as a result of the state government’s “inaction and indifferent attitude in maintaining its own order.” It reminded that 21 days ultimatum was served by the Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) to take its own course of action if it was not implemented by the government. “The situation would have turned volatile had the Sumis not restrained or retaliated as eye witness accounts reported that many of the illegal encroachers at the illegal settlement of Lamhainamdi fired upon the protestors armed with guns from behind the IR personnel using them as human shield,” WSH alleged.
