Deputy Chief Minister (Home) Y Patton today chaired a meeting to discuss matters related to illegal immigrants at Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chumoukedima. The meeting was attended by the Home Commissioner, Director General of Police, Commissioner of Nagaland, and representatives from various civil society organizations.

During the meeting, Patton briefed the members on the actions taken by the police and administration following the viral video of passengers suspected to be illegal immigrants disembarking from Dimapur Railway Station on September 2. He stated that immediate steps were taken, including the establishment of three detection counters at Dimapur Railway Station to screen travelers for illegal immigrants. As a result, 360 travelers were screened, and necessary documents were checked between September 3 and 5, he added.

Director General of Police Rupin Sharma also reported that there has been no significant increase in foot traffic from Bangladesh due to the recent political instability.
